The Mitchell Planning and Zoning Commission approved a plan for a new restaurant, called Hungry Dog, to move into the old Zesto location on 422 S. Sanborn Blvd.
The Hungry Dog, which plans to sell primarily hot dogs and some sandwiches, hopes to open in mid-September or October.
Co-owners Kaitlin Minder and Jordan Muntefering plan to renovate the 29-foot by 16-foot former Zesto building by eliminating some of the exterior rock and replacing it with siding.
Following Monday's meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Minder called the spot on Sanborn Boulevard a "great location" and was looking forward to start work on the project she said is a passion project for her fiance, Muntefering.
"It's all going to be locally sourced," Minter said. "We're going to be making our own hot dogs."
After more than 63 years in the Sanborn Boulevard location, Zesto moved to another building on the 200 block of West First Avenue.
The planning commission also approved BankWest's plan to build a new home at the 1900 block of North Sanborn Boulevard.
Once the new two-story building is completed, BankWest will be able to move from its temporary home directly north of the proposed site of the new facility.
City Planner Neil Putnam described the planned structure as a "substantial building."
Both plans were approved by the commission and require no approval from the City Council.
