Chamberlain, SD- The newest business to Chamberlain officially opened their doors for business this morning at around 9:00 am. Shopko Store Manager, Lowell Peterson actually got a little chocked up when thanking upper management and his support staff for their assistance and partnership regarding the task of preparing the store for the opening.
Although the store had its soft opening on July 10th, the grand opening conducted this morning was attended by over 100 people waiting to get into the store. Refreshments and cookies were supplied by Shopko.
Mayor Chad Mutziger made a few comments and thanked Shopko and Oppidan Development for their faith in the Chamberlain market. Store manager Peterson presented a $2500 check to Deb Johnson of the Chamberlain School Board. Deb stated that this was the first time any new business had ever given the school board a check and she was happy to accept.
Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Mike Normile and Director of Economic Development, Barry KuKes held the ribbon at each end while the Shopko management team used an oversize scissors to cut the ceremonious ribbon.
Shopko is a very welcome addition to the Chamberlain area and has already helped other local business with increased traffic.
