Feeding South Dakota receives 40,000 pounds in Land O'Lakes donation
It was a big day at Feeding South Dakota on Monday thanks to one big donation.
One of our region's largest food providers unloaded a semi containing 40,000 pounds of food.
If you're in the business of helping people who need food, this is the type of donation that stops you in your tracks. Matt Gassen with Feeding South Dakota tells KSFY News; "I'm always humbled by anybody, whether its an individual that makes a $1 donation or a corporation that makes a donation of 40,000 pounds of food."
40,000 pounds of food.
All of it coming from Land O'Lakes. All 40,000 pounds of it are boxes of Macaroni and Cheese and Gassen says that fact is specifically important. Mac and cheese is easy to make, it's something everyone likes and it's provides calories to give people the energy they need. "These are families that are struggling to put food on the table and so this is a great product that's going to be able to be used to help the families that we are serving."
This donation is part of Land O Lakes 'First Run' program. All these boxes came right off the assembly line and straight to Feeding South Dakota.
"I really see the good that the feeding system does. I understand how important it is that we have this in our communities." Lynn Boadwine with Land O'Lakes tells us the company, which is farmer owned, reflects the values of the ag community by helping those who need food....get food. "Culturally I think farmers are a very giving sort of people. Always have been and they step up to the plate."
Lynn Boadwine also says Land O'Lakes will continue partnering with Feeding South Dakota for a long time to come.
