Two earn $1,000 in ‘Lesson Learned SD’

Nathan Powell, of Chamberlain and Logan Kennedy of Vivian; were recently named $1,000 winners in the “Lesson Learned South Dakota” program. The program is an interactive web-based program conducted this spring as a way to encourage young people to be safe drivers.

The program was created by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and $20,000 in cash prizes was sponsored by the South Dakota Broadcasters Association. “Lesson Learned SD” featured South Dakota high school students participating in demonstrations that show what happens when drivers are distracted, not wearing seat belts and driving under the influence.

Filming for the series took place at Sully Buttes High School in Onida, Rapid City High School and Sioux Falls O’Gorman High School. South Dakota young drivers, between the ages of 14 and 19, were encouraged to watch all three videos and answer the follow-up safety questions. Those who did were entered in the contest to win the cash prizes.
