40th Annual St. Joseph Indian School Powwow to be Sept. 17 in Chamberlain

St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain will hold its 40th annual powwow celebration and cultural activities September 16-17, 2016. On Friday, September 16 there will be cultural activities and performances at St. Joseph’s Recreation Center and Akta Lakota Museum & Cultural Center, as well as tours of the school. On Saturday, there will be tours of the students’ campus homes and Our Lady of the Sioux Chapel.
Powwow Grand Entry is at noon and Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Sioux Chapel at 5:00 p.m. At the end of the day, a complimentary dinner will be served and prizes will be awarded to the dancers and drum groups. All events are free, open to the public and handicap accessible.
